Etymology[edit]
Borrowed from Beja duwaan (“vessel for storing liquids”), from Arabic جُوَن (juwan), the plural form of جَوْنَة (jawna, “receptacle for bottles”). Cognate with Sudanese Arabic دوانة (duwāna).
