From Proto-Semitic *ṣ́yḳ- (to be narrow); cognate with Arabic ضاق (ḍāq), Biblical Hebrew צוּק (ṣûq, to constrain, bring into straits, press upon), and Akkadian 𒊓𒀀𒄣 (sâqu). Doublet of ܫܘܼܩܵܐ (šūqā).
