Kildin Sami[edit]

Etymology[edit]

From Proto-Samic *tuontër (a kind of mountain in Lapland). Related to Proto-Finnic *tandër (hard trampled ground or snow). Probably derived from Proto-Uralic *tante-.

Related to Finnish tanner, cognates include Northern Sami duottar and Skolt Sami tuõddâr.
