Etymology[edit]

Cognate with (OC *njɯms, “pregnant”) and Tibetan སྣོམ་པ (snom pa, to take; seize; hold). May also be cognate with Proto-Kam-Sui *ȵam¹ (to hold) and Old Khmer nāṃ (to carry) (Schuessler, 2007).
