Glyph origin[edit]

Phono-semantic compound (形聲形声, OC *hljaɡs) and ideogrammic compound (會意会意): phonetic (OC *djaɡ, stone) + semantic (fire). In the small seal script has corrupted into ⿸广廿. Shuowen Jiezi interprets it as ideogrammic compound (會意会意): 广 (roof) + (light).
