Etymology[edit]

From Proto-Sino-Tibetan *now (tender; soft), which has also been compared to (OC *njonʔ, “soft”), (OC *njewɢ, “weak”), (OC *njuɡ, “meat”), (OC *noːls, *njo, “cowardly”), (OC *njɯmʔ, “weak”) (STEDT; Schuessler, 2007).
