Etymology[edit]

From Proto-Albanian *anj, close to Sanskrit अनीति (ániti, blow out), Gothic 𐌿𐍃𐌰𐌽𐌰𐌽 (usanan, blow out),[1] from Proto-Indo-European *h₂enh₁- (to breathe). Alternatively from Proto-Albanian *aidn(i)-, from Proto-Indo-European *Hoid- (to swell). Cognate to Old Armenian այտնում (aytnum, to swell), Old Norse økkr (swelling, lump, growth), Latin inguen (groin, the genitals, tumefaction in the pubic region).

Verb[edit]

  1. to swell, inflame
