örlig from Old Swedish örligh, örlygh, örlögh, örlighe, örleghe, örlöghe and örlog from Old Swedish örlogh, örloghe, corresponding to Icelandic ørlygi (fight), Danish ørlog (naval warfare), from Middle Low German orlich, Dutch oorlog, Old High German urliugi (war). In Swedish this lives on as the prefix örlogs-, describing naval warfare.
