Etymology[edit]
From French glacée (“iced”) through semantic change, shortened form of French bière glacée ("iced beer"), which was a common digestif served alongside dessert in colonial Vietnam. A folk etymology claims that the word is a phonetic translation of French dessert (“dessert”).
