From Proto-Balto-Slavic *śḗˀweras; Proto-Balto-Slavic *śjáuˀras,[1] from Proto-Indo-European *ḱeh₁wer-o-[1] Cognate with Russian се́вер (séver, north)[1] and Latin caurus (north-western wind).[1]
