Etymology[edit]

Unknown. Not related as *μλίτον (*mlíton) to μύλη (múlē, mill) and ἀμαλδύνω (amaldúnō, to soften, mitigate). Perhaps cognate to Albanian lëpjetë (sorrel). Also compare the cognates listed at Proto-Slavic *loboda (goosefoot).
