Etymology[edit]
Unknown. Not related as *μλίτον (*mlíton) to μύλη (múlē, “mill”) and ἀμαλδύνω (amaldúnō, “to soften, mitigate”). Perhaps cognate to Albanian lëpjetë (“sorrel”). Also compare the cognates listed at Proto-Slavic *loboda (“goosefoot”).
