Etymology[edit]

Inherited from the medieval γλυκός (glukós), from Ancient Greek γλυκύς (glukús, sweet) with metaplasm of ending as in adjectives in -ός (-ós).[1][2][3] Compare to the formal modern usage of γλυκύς (glykýs).
