Ancient Greek[edit]

Etymology[edit]

Furnée compares ἄκαστος (ákastos, maple), noting that the hard wood of this tree is excellent for building; he further compares κόστον (kóston, wooden part of a carrier), suggesting a possible Pre-Greek origin. Then again, compare Sanskrit काष्ठ (kāṣṭha, wood, timber).
