Etymology[edit]

From κατακλύζω (kataklúzō, I wash off, wash away, deluge, inundate) (from Proto-Indo-European *ḱlewH- (clean)) + -μός (-mós), equivalent to κατα- (kata-) +‎ κλῠσμός (klusmós).
