Etymology[edit]
Learned borrowing from Koine Greek κοινόβιον (koinóbion),[1] neuter of κοινόβιος (koinóbios).[2] Morphologically κοινό- (koinó-, “common”) + βί(ος) (ví(os), “life”) + suffix for neuters -ο.
