Ancient Greek[edit]

Etymology[edit]

The element "-σσ-", as well as the technical meaning, points to a Pre-Greek origin. Previously the word has been compared with Old English crocca (crock), Dutch kruik (jug) and Middle Irish croccán. Note also Old Armenian կարաս (karas).
