From the river name *Пльскова (*Plĭskova) (Russian Пскова́ (Psková)). Identical to Old Church Slavonic Пльсковъ (Plĭskovŭ, Pliska), also related to Polish Pszczyna. Probably related to Proto-Slavic *pleskъ (splash).
