Etymology[edit]

From Proto-Abkhaz-Abaza *akʷənə́ (“flax”). Compare Ossetian гӕн (gæn), Svan ქან (kan).[1][2] Ultimately from the same source of Ancient Greek κάνναβις (kánnabis).
