  Он был твёрдо уверен, что имеет полное право на отдых, на удовольствие, на путешествие долгое и комфортабельное, и мало ли ещё на что. Для такой уверенности у него был тот резон, что, во-первых, он был богат, а во-вторых, только что приступал к жизни, несмотря на свои пятьдесят восемь лет.
  On byl tvjórdo uveren, što imejet polnoje pravo na otdyx, na udovolʹstvije, na putešestvije dolgoje i komfortabelʹnoje, i malo li ješčó na što. Dlja takoj uverennosti u nevo byl tot rezon, što, vo-pervyx, on byl bogat, a vo-vtoryx, tolʹko što pristupal k žizni, nesmotrja na svoi pjatʹdesjat vosemʹ let.
  He felt firmly assured that he had every right to take a rest, pleasure, in a prolonged and comfortable journey, and other things besides. For such an assurance he had the good reason, that, in the first place, he was rich, and that, in the second, in spite of his fifty-eight years, he was only just taking his first plunge into life.
