From Proto-Turkic *yubka (thin (of flat objects)). Cognate with Bashkir йоҡа (yoqa), Kyrgyz жука (juka), Southern Altai јука (ǰuka), Uzbek yupqa, Uyghur يۇپقا (yupqa, thin), etc.
