Inherited from Classical Mongolian ᠵᠡᠭᠦᠨ (ǰegün /ǰüün/, “left”), from Middle Mongol ᠵᠡᠭᠦᠨ (jʔkwn /ǰägün/, “left”), from Proto-Mongolic *jexün. Cognate with Buryat зүүн (züün), Kalmyk зүн (zün), etc. Compare also Tuvan loan чөөн (çöön, “left; eastern”, adjective).
