From Proto-Turkic *yogan (“thick”).
Cognate with Old Turkic [script needed] (joγan, “thick”); Kazakh жуан (juan), Kyrgyz жоон (joon), Southern Altai јоон (ǰoon), Uzbek yoʻgʻon, Turkish yoğun, Yakut суон (suon, “thick”), etc.
