From Proto-Turkic *kēče (night), derived from the root *kēč (late).

Cognate with Turkish gece (night), Azerbaijani gecə (night), Turkmen gije (night), Kazakh кеш (keş, evening), Kyrgyz кеч (kec, evening), etc.
