Etymology[edit]

Borrowed from Polish kwiatek (flower). Ultimately from Proto-Slavic *květъ, from Proto-Indo-European *ḱwoyt-o- (white, light), from Proto-Indo-European *ḱweyt- (white), whence English white. Slavic cognates include Polish kwiat and Russian цветок (cvetok).
