Etymology[edit]

From Proto-Turkic *kök(i)rek (chest, breast).

Note that the pleophonic form күкерәк (kükeräk) is also attested in Bashkir dialects.

Cognate with Tatar күкрәк (kükräk), Kazakh көкірек (kökırek), Kyrgyz көкүрөк (kökürök), Karachay-Balkar кёкюрек (kökürek), Uzbek koʻkrak, Uyghur كۈكرەك (kükrek), Turkmen kükrek (chest, breast), etc.
