Etymology[edit]

From köläm "volume; amount", a regional (Central Asian) innovation. No consensus exists on its derivation. Cognate with Tatar күләм (küläm), Bashkir күләм (küləm), Kyrgyz көлөм (kölöm), Southern Altai келем (kelem, strength), Uzbek ko'lam, Uyghur كولەم (kolem, volume), etc.
