Etymology[edit]

From obsolete Russian пудо́вка (pudóvka) with Bulgarianized stress; equivalent to пуд (pud) +‎ -ов- (-ov-) +‎ -ка (-ka). Note that for some reason the current Russian term for a kettlebell, ги́ря (gírja), is used in Bulgarian for a dumbbell.
