Etymology[edit]

Inherited from Proto-Slavic *trěščati. Equivalent to треск (tresk) +‎ -а́ть (-átʹ), with iotation. The same root appears in the related verbs тре́скаться (tréskatʹsja), тре́снуть (trésnutʹ).
