Inherited from Old Ruthenian ударя́ти (udarjáti). By surface analysis, удар- (udar-) +‎ -яти (-jaty). Compare Old Ruthenian удара́ти (udaráti), Old Church Slavonic оударати (udarati), Serbo-Croatian у̀дарати, Russian ударя́ть (udarjátʹ).
