From цетвьрте (cetvĭrte, fourth) +‎ -ьне (-ĭne). Cognate with Old East Slavic четвьртьнъ (četvĭrtĭnŭ), Russian четвертно́й (četvertnój), Ukrainian четвертни́й (četvertnýj).
