From Proto-Turkic *yaŋï (“new”). Cognate to Khakas наа (naa), Shor наа (naa), Chulym нӓӓ (nää), Western Yugur yaŋï, yaŋa, Tuvan чаа (çaa), Tofa няа (ńaa); Kumyk янгы (yañı), etc.
