Usage notes[edit]

The term refers to the cornerstone of Ingush social structure, a code of honour consisting in a display of deference towards members of someone's own clan, especially elder relatives, and between members of different clans. It is generally used in the singular, but Kodzoev (2010) gives a plural form as well.[2]
