Etymology[edit]

From Proto-Turkic *yum- (round).

Cognate with Karakhanid [script needed] (jumɣaq, globular or round thing); Turkmen ýumak (ball), Khakas ныңмах (nıñmax, ball-shaped), Turkish yumak (ball of wool/thread), etc.
