From Proto-Turkic *kïčgïr- (“to shout, cry”).[1]

Cognate with Crimean Tatar qıçırmaq, Uzbek qichqirmoq (“to shout”), Azerbaijani qışqırmaq (“to scream”).

ҡысҡырыу • (qısqırıw) (ambitransitive)

  1. to shout, cry, yell
  2. (animals) to make the cry typical of the respective species; bray, crow, caw, cuckoo, etc.
    Ҡоҙғон ҡайһы тирәлә ҡысҡырһа, шунда мәйет була.
    Qoźğon qayhı tirələ qısqırha, şunda məyet bula.
    Where a raven caws, there will be a dead man.
