From *sasïq (malodorous, having a bad smell), from sasï- "to smell bad".

Cognate with Karakhanid [script needed] (sasïγ, rancid); Kazakh сасық (sasyq), Kyrgyz сасык (sasık), Kumyk сасыкъ (sasıq, bad smell), Uzbek sassiq, Uyghur سېسىق (sësiq, having a bad smell).
