Etymology[edit]

The origin is uncertain. Related to խուռն (xuṙn). Likely an Anatolian borrowing: compare Luwian [script needed] (ḫarnanti-), [script needed] (ḫarnamman), Hittite [script needed] (ḫarnanta-), [script needed] (ḫarnammar, “yeast, leavening”).[1][2][3][4]
