The origin is uncertain.[1][2][3][4]

Has been compared to Old Armenian ձունձ (junj, tatters), ձրձեմ (jrjem, to pluck, shred, rend, tear to pieces), Middle Armenian ձարձատ (jarjat, tattered, frayed).[5][3]
