Verb

הוֹדִיעַ • (hodía) third-singular masculine past (hif'il construction)

1. To inform, to announce, to make known.

   הודיעו לנו שאין חשמל. — hodí'u lánu she'éin khashmál. — They informed us that there is no electricity.

   • 2011 April 19, “סוריה: הממשלה הודיעה על ביטול חוקי החירום” (súrya: hamemshalá hodi'á ál bitúl khukéi-hakheirúm, “Syria: government announces end of state of emergency”), in Walla!.

Usage notes

• The information being imparted is given either in a clause introduced by שֶׁ־ (she-) or כִּי (kí), or in a prepositional phrase with the preposition עַל (ál).
• The recipient of the information, if any, is given in a prepositional phrase with the preposition לְ־ (l'-).
