Derived from Arabic شَهِيد (šahīd), literally "witness".

Verb[edit]

הִשְׁתַּהֵד (hishtahéd) third-singular masculine past (hitpa'el construction)

  1. (intransitive, informal) To become a shaheed.
    גם אני ממש שמחתי באותו יום שבו המנוול הזקן, משלח השאהידים, סוף סוף השתהד בעצמו.
    gám aní mamásh samákhti be'otó yóm shebó hamenuvál hazakén, mishlákh hashahídim, sóf sóf hishtahéd be'atsmó.
    I was also very happy on the same day the old bastard, the master of shaheeds, finally became a shaheed himself.
