Etymology[edit]

Inherited from Sanskrit *उद्ध्वलति (uddhvalati). Cognate with Saraiki اُدَّھلَݨ (uddahlaṇ, to elope), Urdu اُدَھلْنا (udhalnā, to be intoxicated, sinful) / Hindi उधलना (udhalnā), Gujarati ઉધળવું (udhaḷvũ) and Marathi उधळणे (udhaḷṇe).

اُدَّھلݨا or اُدَّھࣇنا (uddhalṇā or uddhaḷnā) (intransitive, Gurmukhi spelling ਉੱਧਲ਼ਨਾ)

  1. (of a married woman) to elope with another man
