Arabic[edit]
Etymology[edit]
Literally “the Eastern calendar”, as opposed to اَلتَّقْوِيم اَلْغَرْبِيّ (at-taqwīm al-ḡarbiyy, “the Western, i.e. Gregorian, calendar”), due to its being used by the Eastern Orthodox churches and despite its being western, namely Roman, in origin.
