Etymology[edit]
Inherited from Proto-Turkic *ōpur (“glutton”), from *ōp- (“to gulp down, swallow”); cognate with Bashkir убыр (ubır), Chuvash вупӑр (vup̬ăr), Kazakh обыр (obyr), Kyrgyz обур (obur) and Tatar убыр (ubır).
