Etymology[edit]

Inherited from Proto-Turkic *uč- (to fly); cognate with Azerbaijani uçmaq, Bashkir осоу (osow), Chuvash вӗҫ (vĕś), Kazakh ұшу (ūşu), Kyrgyz учуу (ucuu), Turkmen uçmak, Uyghur ئۇچماق (uchmaq) and Uzbek uchmoq.

اوچمق (uçmak)

  1. (transitive) to fly, to travel through the air without being in contact with a grounded surface
  2. (transitive) to evaporate, volatilize, to transition from a liquid state into a gaseous state
  3. (transitive) to fade, to become faint in hue or tint; hence, to be wanting in color
