South Levantine Arabic[edit]

Etymology[edit]

Learned borrowing from Arabic بِالضَّبْطِ (bi-ḍ-ḍabṭi), corresponding to بـ (b-, by) + الزبط (iẓ-ẓabṭ, the exactness).

Pronunciation[edit]

  • IPA(key): /bizˤ.zˤabtˤ/, [bɪzˤˈzˤɑbtˤ]
  • (file)

Adverb[edit]

بالزبط (biẓ-ẓabṭ)

  1. exactly, precisely

Usage notes[edit]

  • The spelling with ز is the most common one, although it represents an emphathic sound here, since it is not derived form the Standard Arabic ظ () and the emphathicness is spreading from the last letter ط () through the whole word anyway.
