Etymology[edit]
From بالطه (balta, “axe, hatchet”) + ـلامق (-lamak, suffix forming infinitives from nouns or adjectives).

- (transitive) to axe, to fell or chop with an axe or hatchet
- (figuratively) to wreck, scupper, ruin, cause damage to something
- (figuratively) to sabotage, undermine, weaken or work against
