Inherited from Proto-Turkic *buyŋuŕ (horn); cognate with Azerbaijani buynuz, Bashkir мөгөҙ (mögöź), Kazakh мүйіз (müiız), Kyrgyz мүйүз (müyüz), Tatar мөгез (mögez), Uyghur مۈڭگۈز (münggüz) and Uzbek muguz.
