Etymology[edit]

From Ottoman Turkish چانطه (çanta, leather bag, small suitcase). Cognate with Egyptian Arabic شنطة (šanṭa), Moroccan Arabic شنطة (šanṭa), South Levantine Arabic شنطة (šanṭa).
