Punjabi[edit]

Etymology[edit]

Inherited from Prakrit 𑀭𑁄𑀮 (rōla), from Sanskrit रव (ráva, roar; cry), ultimately from Proto-Indo-European *rew- (to shout, yell; a rustling sound). Cognate with Pahari-Potwari رولا (rolā), Hindi रौल (raul) among others.
