Persian[edit]

Etymology[edit]

Ultimately a derivation of Proto-Iranian *Zai (to equip, to adorn), with no apparent cognates outside of Iranian. Related to زیور (zivar, ornament). Compare Baluchi [script needed] (ázit, to embellish, adorn).
