Etymology[edit]

From Middle Persian s’htn' (sāxtan, to build, make), from Proto-Iranian *sač- (to fit, be suitable, be able), from Proto-Indo-European *ḱek⁽ʷ⁾- (to achieve, accomplish, be able, capable).[1] Cognate with Sanskrit शक् (śak, to be able, capable); see there for more cognates.
